Suncare is one of the most technically demanding areas of cosmetic formulation, requiring UV protection to be balanced with stability, sensory elegance, compliance and consumer acceptability. Successful SPF development depends not only on target protection level, but on filter selection and stabilisation, film formation, dispersion quality and real-use performance.
At Global Cosmetic Developments (GCD), we build suncare formulas around the full technical structure from the outset, including UV filter strategy, carrier selection, mineral or pigment dispersion where relevant, emulsion design, viscosity profile, film formation, photostability, preservation, pack compatibility and validation pathway. Testing and Validation
Our development process starts with a detailed assessment of the brief, target SPF direction, market scope and likely testing pathway. We then use our Labsphere UV-2000 Ultraviolet Transmittance Analyser to screen prototypes in vitro, allowing early comparison of SPF performance and refinement of filter combinations, dispersion quality, film-forming behaviour and base architecture before formal validation.
Where required, we coordinate with trusted external testing partners for the in vivo SPF and UVA assessment needed to support compliant product claims. We can help align formulation readiness with the validation pathway, so that factors such as photostability, water resistance, pack compatibility and target claim position are considered before formal substantiation begins.
